Add Reverb to Music Online: A Simple Guide

Understand reverb, adjust its amount and keep your mix clear.

What does reverb do?

Reverb simulates multiple reflections of a sound in a space. It adds depth and makes instruments seem to continue after the source stops. This differs from a distinct echo that repeats a recognizable copy of the sound. The best setting depends on the song and the mood you want.

Find the right amount

Start with a low reverb level and slowly increase it. Pay attention to vocals and drums. Too much reverb can blur lyrics, mask transients and make rhythmic elements less defined. In many slowed + reverb edits, restraint produces a cleaner and more spacious result.

Preview the reverb tail

Reverberation continues briefly after the original sound ends. If you trim a track, check the ending so that it does not stop unnaturally. Listen on different headphones or speakers before exporting. A small fade out may help shape the final impression.
